The 7 Best Met Gala Looks And Why We Love Them
Earlier this week was the first Monday in May, and we all know what that means… it was Met Gala Monday! The Met Gala’s theme this year was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and our favorites were definitely who stuck to the theme! Here are 7 of our favorite Met Gala looks this year and why we loved them. And yes, there was a lot of Versace (after all, Donatella was one of the chairs of this year’s gala).
Katy Perry
Katy Perry was wearing a Versace gown complete with literal angel wings. We loved Katy’s look because it was unexpected and equally very extra. But, as we know, Perry has an affinity for going over the top, and this was no exception. We cannot imagine how heavy those wings were (although she did take a break and literally sit on the stairs). And speaking of wings, one of our favorite moments of the night was when Katy practically knocked someone over with them. According to a red-carpet interview with The New York Times, Katy commented that the ensemble made her feel: “… very angelic. Celestial. Ethereal,” and that’s exactly the vibes we got from her dress.
Rihanna
Rihanna is basically the queen of the Met Gala. Every year, we get more and more excited to see what she is going to come up with. Since this year’s theme was “Catholic Imagination,” she literally came to the gala as the Pope, a la Maison Margiela, complete with a papal-inspired headpiece and overcoat. Absolute perfection head to toe!
Blake Lively
Lively’s dress was so massive that, according to Vogue, she was transported to the gala via party bus. How insane is that? This red Versace number took over 600 hours to make and was said to be a inspired by the Renaissance-era and Baby Jesus (i.e. headpiece). Regardless, it was absolutely incredible. Even Lively herself called it her "most favorite look ever!"
Hailee Steinfeld
Steinfeld went for a white Prabal Gurung gown with jewels and a crown fit for a queen. We loved her simple and angelic look because it was on theme and overall, she looked incredible. Sometimes, keeping it classic is the best way to go. It’s no surprise she stunned - this is her eighth time attending the event!
Ariana Grande
While it was Hailee’s eighth time attending, it was Grande’s first time attending, so it’s no surprise that she went for an epic ballgown designed by none other than Vera Wang. Is there anything better than a Vera Wang gown? (The correct answer is no, there’s not). Grande's grown featured Michelangelo’s “The Last Judgment” which can be seen in the Sistine Chapel. According to an interview with E!, Grande was “so excited” and beyond thrilled to be attending her first ever Met Gala.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Style Icon and Met Gala mainstay, Sarah Jessica Parker, stunned in a Dolce & Gabbana gown and nativity scene hat. She opted for to wear Dolce & Gabbana because, “they’re devoted observant Catholics...they’ve grown up with the church and imagery, and they had a lot of strong feelings and beautiful sketches, so it was easy.” We'd say it was a good choice indeed!
