Backstage at Custo Barcelona: A Bright Chapter Ahead

After chatting with Custo Dalmau before the show, it’s apparent Custo Barcelona is all about innovation while staying true to the label’s legacy. Dalmau’s light and enthusiasm was undeniable which made us that much more excited to witness Custo Barcelona’s next chapter. The collection was just as vibrant as his attitude by featuring an array of punchy hues, endless shine and daring silhouettes fit for the ultimate “cool girl” aesthetic.

Can we ask you about the inspiration and story behind the collection?

This season, we always pull it tighter, and we call it “Thank you, next” because we are trying, after 40 years in the market, to bring the new generation of Custo Barcelona. We bet on technology. We develop our own materials, and our own fabrics, through that technology. This is the new language of this collection.

How are you using beauty to integrate into that, and further your storyline?

Well, we’re trying to bring beauty by not competing with our clothes-something very, very neutral.

Do you have any pre-show rituals you always do before the show, to wish good luck, or any celebrations with the team?

I sleep very well the night before.

With all the format options available in the industry right now, what makes you still opt for runway?

Well, we are from the “old school,” you know? Runways, when we started, were the epic thing. I think it’s still a big, important thing today. We love runways, basically.
