With Christmas right around the corner, Mariah Carey finds herself at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart once again. Throughout her career, Carey has managed to break several records, including being the first female to debut at number one. Carey also holds the record for most number-ones on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for a solo-artist with 19. In addition to her endless list of record-breaking accomplishments, Carey has managed to acquire the title “queen of Christmas” over the years. Her hit song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has continued to grow throughout the years, undoubtedly becoming one of the best modern-day Christmas songs ever.
On December 21, 2019, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” hit number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, 25 years after its initial release date. This was the first Christmas song to top the charts since “The Chipmunk Song” back in 1958-59. In addition to extending her list of number-ones, Carey became the first artist to have a number one in four consecutive decades. Carey even released an extra festive alternative music video for AIWFCIY, which has already reached over 100 million views on YouTube, along with unreleased video footage of the original video.
This year Carey teamed up with Apple TV to produce “Mariah’s Magical Christmas Special.” The special premiered on December 4 and featured special guests Ariana Grande, Tiffany Hadish, Snoop Dogg, Jennifer Hudson, and Jermaine Dupri. Most notable from the special is the collaboration with Grande and Hudson on the song “Oh Santa!” which has already surpassed 22 million views on YouTube. Once the collaboration was released social media went wild, celebrating Carey and Grande’s inevitable team-up. As we all know, Carey and Grande both share insane vocal abilities that allow them to hit incredibly high notes. Towards the end of the song, the two share a precious moment together where they harmonize in whistle-tone. Carey also has a collaboration with the Peanuts Gang where they sing “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Despite other holiday songs being discounted on iTunes, Carey’s smash song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has reclaimed its spot back at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. This is now the second year in a row that Carey’s magical Christmas song has topped the charts in the United States. Carey’s collaboration with Grande and Hudson has also entered the charts at 79. With Christmas a little over a week away, both holiday songs are expected to grow exponentially in streams and sales. It is possible that “Oh Santa!” will climb the charts to a higher position as we get closer to the holidays.
In addition to reclaiming its spot in the United States, the song also reached number one for the first time in the UK. The song has also reached number-one in Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Lithuania, and Norway. Carey went on Twitter shortly after news broke and thanked all her UK fans via video for making the song go number-one. In the video, Carey showcases her trophy while expressing her gratitude and excitement and lets fans know how much she values them. She also did an impromptu photoshoot with her kids, boyfriend, and dog in front of her Christmas decorations to celebrate.
“Jumping up and down in front of the Christmas tree with the kids and the dogs. Blasting ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ and sending virtual hugs to everyone across the pond who helped make it happen! Love you so much!!!” Said Carey.
If you have not listened to Carey’s new Christmas collaborations or classics, then sit back with a warm glass of milk and cookies and get festive!
