Here’s How to Dress Like The Leading Ladies of 'Emily in Paris'
By: Aaron Royce
At Making it in Manhattan, we love Emily in Paris. After all, aside from the Big Apple, there’s nothing more magical than the City of Light! When we first watched the American girl-in-Paris series this year, it reminded us of one American girl in Paris in particular. Of course, we’re talking about our founder Caroline Vazzana, who’s traveled to many of the same sights as Emily — and worn plenty of berets, sequins and dramatic sleeved-tops to boot!
Thanks to costume designer Patricia Field, all of the show’s leading ladies (and guys, too!) looked breathtaking in a range of outfits that were filled with color, texture, and lots of sparkle. But her outfits also had us thinking, as we lounged in our quarantine sweats and Uggs: Why can’t we dress like this right now? For many, the pandemic hasn’t allowed for occasions to dress up — but for us, it’s an instant mood and productivity boost. So why not take a cue from our latest fashion inspirations the next time you get dressed? We rounded up our favorite signature pieces from the show’s three female leads — Emily, Mindy and Camille — and broke down how to style them just for you. Read on for the pieces we’re loving right now (while we wait for season 2) that are tres magnifique!
Emily
Quilted Crossbody
Emily carries numerous quilted bags in her romps around Paris — and occasionally two — so why not make one a staple in your bag rotation? We’re loving styles in bright colors, especially in non-traditional materials like nylon or velvet. Pair yours with a matching shoe and jacket to mimic Emily’s style.

Printed Dress
Talk about tres chic! Emily loves herself a printed dress, whether it’s a floral number for lunch with Mindy or a patchwork mini for the office. Take a cue from her book and wear a printed dress with a complementary coat, or even try belting one for sharp styles that are perfect for your morning coffee run.

Beret
Emily rarely leaves her apartment without a beret, and we’re following suit this season. Paired with a matching jacket or sweater-and-skirt set, they tie an outfit together perfectly. Try one with an embellishment or two for a look that’s undeniably darling! Styles with bows, crystals or sequins are sure to make a statement wherever you go.

Mindy
Dramatic-Sleeved Top
Mindy loves statement sleeves, and we wholeheartedly agree! Though it’s a little chilly to be wearing her off-the-shoulder styles right now (unless that’s your thing), we still love her dedication to sleeves that are ruffled, fluttery, and puffy. Take a similar style cue and wear a top with dramatic sleeves with any bottoms of your choice for an outfit that’s sure to be eye-catching.

Worn Denim
When Mindy wears jeans, they’re usually worn-in — and we’re absolutely here for it. Slightly faded, distressed or generally worn denim adds more texture and instant vintage vibes to any look. We’re especially crushing on slightly distressed styles in medium or light washes right now, that are destined to be your new favorite pair.

Drop Earrings
Statement earrings are a daily accessory for Mindy in Emily in Paris, so why not make them yours? Statement earrings instantly dress up a variety of outfits, look amazing over Zoom, and just make us feel undeniably unique. Life is a special occasion, after all — so why not make it a little more sparkly? Mindy favors pieces with stones, tassels or crystals, which you’ll spot us wearing with absolutely everything in our closets.

Camille
Moto Jacket
Camille’s French-girl style wouldn’t be complete without a motorcycle jacket. Whether it’s suede, leather or velvet, this outerwear staple will make any outfit instantly cool. We especially love how they can be paired with absolutely anything — so try slipping a colorful version on for an instant dose of Parisian style.

Scarf
Silk scarves are a playful accessory that we love, and whether they’re tied on bags — or she’s teaching Emily how to wear one — Camille likes them, too. A colorful, printed style is an easy way to look instantly effortless, even if it’s added to your outfit last-minute. Knot one around your favorite bag’s handles for a personalized look, or simply wear one in place of a necklace as a sweet statement piece.

Western Boots
One aspect of Camille’s wardrobe we’re still pondering is her footwear, which mostly takes cues from the West — though we’re not complaining. When she first meets Emily at a flower stand, Camille’s red boots are an instant standout. More shoes with thick heels and metal details (even full cowboy boots, at one point) make appearances throughout the show, which we’re absolutely loving. Throw on any pair of pointed-toe boots with a thick heel or colored leather before heading out the door — or just moving from your bedroom to the living room — and you’ll have the same cool-girl look.
