An Insiders Guide to Fashion Month
By: Caroline Vazzana
There’s no denying I love fashion month. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen my fashion week journey throughout the years, and followed along with me as I made my way across the world for my first Paris fashion week last February. Well, if New York and Paris weren’t enough, I decided to add Milan to my list this September. Yes, I planned on writing this reflection a long time ago, but once I touched down back in New York I decided to host an epic Halloween party with the Seville, and let’s just say that took up a little bit of my time.
But as I sit here and reflect back on the past few months, I can honestly say Milan fashion week wasn’t what I had expected it to be. It was better. Now, I’m not saying the city was necessarily my favorite- with limited access to car service and my inability to speak Italian, it was a bit difficult to navigate. But, the connections I made, the shows I attended, and the clothes I wore were absolutely unreal.
After about week in Milan I ventured to Paris for an abridged Paris fashion week, I only did about four days. Which honestly was more than enough after doing the entire Milan fashion week. Paris is still my favorite city, sorry Milan. There’s just something so incredibly magical about this city. But I would say I enjoyed the shows better I personally attended in Milan.
Watch here for a little guide to some of my favorite moments in Milan and Paris and read on for my top ten favorite moments of my trip.
Top 10 Moments of Milan & Paris Fashion Week (in no particular order):
The MSGM show! This was the tenth year anniversary show for MSGM so I was very honored to be invited and to be dressed by the brand. Something that I found super interesting about Fashion Week abroad is that each country gets their own section so the seating can be very limited since the US section might only be two rows in one section. Anyway, I was super honored to attend and loved my look so much!
Eating pizza in an authentic Milan spot. I really wanted to go to an authentic, non touristy spot so I asked the people at my hotel for a good pizza spot. They recommended Ristoranti Pizzaerie Maruzzella and it was absolutely delicious. And funny enough, most of the staff was from Sicily which is where my family is from so some of the waiters were friends with my cousins!
M Missoni dinner & the Missoni show. I’ve been such a Missoni fan forever so I loved attending their events in Milan. The M Missoni dinner was a few days before the show and it was in a gorgeous outdoor venue. And then the Missoni show was outdoors at a pool and I wore a fun M Missoni look to the show that the brand lent me.
Tartufi & Friends Milano truffle bar- need I say more? The food was unreal. I got a truffle pasta and burrata.
Eating gelato outside while walking to a show. While on my way to one of my shows I passed this little outdoor gelato place called Granaio Caffe a Cucina and the gelato was unreal.
Eating dinner at the oldest cafe in Paris called Le Procope, their oysters and champagne are a must.
The Zadig et Voltaire party at the Ritz with Kate Moss. I work with Zadig et Voltaire often so when I recived the invite to their party in Paris I was so excited. I went to their flagship store to pick out a look for the party and chose this gorgeous sequin dress which I was in love with.
Lunch at the original Laduree, which as you guys know I go to Laduree in Soho all the time so I loved going to the original one.
The Rochas Show at The Trocadero. From my seat I had a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower and it was pure magic.
Redemption Show, my last show of Fashion Month and the entire venue was covered in fresh flowers. Also the February before I unfortunately got stuck in traffic so I missed the Redemption show (it was the first show I ever missed) so I was very happy I made it this time!
