Sweaters never go out of style, especially in wintertime. As the days get shorter and nights get darker, all we want to do is wrap ourselves in our warmest, coziest sweaters. This season, a range of styles have transformed the cold-weather staple into a fashionable must-have. From feminine frills to brilliant color blocking, these trends can be worn all season for outfits that are comfy and fashion-forward. Plus, with their soft textures and endless cozy vibes, what’s not to love about sweaters? We’re already planning our dream holiday looks with our favorite finds—which you can discover for yourself below!

Puff Sleeves

We love a good statement sleeve here at Making it in Manhattan, so obviously we’re head over heels for this trend. Style puff-sleeved knits with a midi skirt or your favorite trousers for a look that’s whimsical and winter-ready. We especially love them with cropped pants or statement skirts, like how Caroline styled similar tops at Fashion Week and the latest Alice + Olivia presentation.

Stripes

This season, the classic stripe has gotten a makeover for our new favorite sweaters. Whether they’re thick, thin, multicolored or two-toned, stripes can be worn in any size or color palette. Try a style like Farm Rio’s latest for Thanksgiving or your next Zoom call for sharp and vibrant style!

Ruffles

Ruffled sweaters are the best way to dress up your fall looks—just take a cue from fashionistas like Vanessa Hudgens and Olivia Palermo. Frills and ruffles have been decorating sweaters and sweatshirts all year, and now it’s finally time to wear them! Our favorite styles feature delicate ruffles with added details like lace or bows, which provide a fun and feminine take on the trend.

Prints

Prints never go out of style—and that includes sweaters, too. This trend gained traction from vintage knits that can regularly be seen on TikTok and at your local thrift stores. Now, numerous brands from Tory Burch to La DoubleJ have put their own spin on them, providing prints in a range of colors and aesthetics for everyone to enjoy.

 Color Blocking

Add a dose of color to your sweater rotation with one of the year’s biggest trends. Color blocking adds instant 80’s and 90’s vibes to any look, as well as cheerful hues to liven up any ensemble. Pastels, darker tones, and all colors of the rainbow are part of color blocking, so there’s a vibrant option for anyone to wear this autumn.

 Chunky

Maybe it’s the dropping temps—or Taylor Swift’s Folkore album—but chunky sweaters are one of the biggest sweater trends this fall. The most popular styles are cable knit and slightly oversized, providing maximum coziness for all your fall outfits. Pair one with a mini skirt or jeans (or even leggings if you’re working from home) to stay comfy and stylish all season.
