It’s no doubt 2020 will go down as a memorable year; our brains worried about the COVID-19 epidemic, which keeps us wondering what’s next? The resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement awakened consciousness of how our country needs to change, election season is around the corner, we've learned new skills at home like speaking a new language, baking, computer coding and more with our extra time.

Our minds are honed in our future state while we’re physically confined by the walls of our homes. During this significant time, how have you dressed? In a pair of sweats? Your typical go-to’s of a basic tee and blazer? A lot of black?

We have all gotten used to comfortable loungewear clothing such as PJ's and athleisure. At MIIM, we believe fashion will keep this trend with elements to give it an elevated lift while we can see our friends, family and coworkers and punchy hues to amp the look up a notch.

Day-to-night outfits have been a center of our way of living even before the quarantine,  just a change in makeup and accessories transform an outfit’s ability to multitask. This notion is staying with us after lockdown is over with the maxi dress in homely fabrics such as silk, cotton, and velvet. We love dresses from designers like Chloe who have created pieces that look elegant yet relaxed we can wake up and go to bed as a sleeping beauty without lacking professionalism.

The normalization of Zoom calls by 2021 will have designers thinking about ways to impress anyone during meetings. No one can see our entire outfit by video call, they can only see our faces, necklines and shoulder lines. Whether it's a bold necklace or pair of statement earrings to add on to a standard plain white tee, a blouse or a blazer with embroidered bedazzlements. We’re taking nods from Miu Miu who showcased collars with touches of glam for AW2020.

If the extra bling isn't your thing, silhouettes of power like bold shoulder lines are making a comeback, as seen on the runway Alexander McQueen. The big, puffed sleeves brings us back to the historic royal style statement of The Tudors.

Over the quarantine, we've learned to keep an open, creative mind with our extra free time. Design details like bows and ruffles on our sleeves, collarline and necklines are representative of the bohemian spirit we've learned to appreciate. Zimmermann’s fuse a colorful palette, floral patterns and ruffled layered skirts to spark joy. They’re flattering and feminine and have a year-round freshness to layer up or down.

Gardens and parks have become one of the few places that we could find ourselves reconnected with the outside world. The colors of the earth found in sand, leaves, dirt are finding their way into our wardrobes. Tods tailored 70’s styles in leather shades of brown, burgundy, black and olive green bring environmental consciousness and sophistication.

Nothing lasts forever, when the pandemic is over, we sure to be overjoyed with emotion and our clothing choices will make a statement to match. We’ll want people to notice us at the corner of the bar when we walk into the party or spotted on the staircase, opting for a bright pink, neon orange, stop-sign red mixed with a neutral black or beige look put together. Balenciaga’s mix of textures like a metallic silver blouse, neon blue coat and electric green boots makes anyone stand apart from the crowd day or night.  Fabrications such as sequins, leather, tulle are eye-catching and flicker in the spotlight transitioning beautifully from day-to-night.

Wearing our hearts on our sleeves will remain with us. We are unleashing our inner activism. We will continue to wear messages of what we believe in. At Balmain, Olivier Rousteing tapped into his Somalian and Ethiopian roots as he questioned his rejected identity as an adopted child, one tee styled with a green wrap skirt on the runway reads, “Own Who You Are.”  In the coming month, we envision wearing the words to convey that the issues that we’ve protested, whether its issues on environmentalism, LGBTQ, gender equality, racial equality, they're still issues that are striving to be solved in 2021.

The happy feeling knowing we made it through the hardships alive, knowing that we can survive through anything. We will all be proud that we grew spiritually through reevaluating who we are at home and how to become the best versions of ourselves. Our clothing in 2021 through its bold colors, patterns, prints and silhouettes will be a daily celebration. We’ll be looking forward to this global party bash.
